Dear NYFA LA Community,

Rates of COVID-19 virus transmission in LA are increasing and, consequently, members of our community are contracting COVID-19 at increased frequency. Given these increasing rates of transmission in LA, please closely adhere to all NYFA health and safety protocols, as described in the COVID Safety Plan.

If you are scheduled to report to campus on any day you feel sick:
  • Please stay home
  • Honestly report ALL of your symptoms to the NYFA Symptom Tracker
  • Safely leave your home to get an RT-PCR test
  • Report any positive cases to covidteamla@nyfa.edu
For ongoing updates of the incidence of illness on the NYFA LA Campus, please consult the LA Campus Dashboard.

NYFA LA’s COVID-19 Administration Team is closely monitoring on-campus transmission and has set metrics by which the NYFA LA Campus may seek to reinstate a mask mandate on campus.
  • If a mask mandate is reinstated, it would exclude masking during performances and eating on campus will continue to be permitted.
  • NYFA LA plans to reinstate a mask mandate if there are a total of twenty-five (25) individuals with positive test results reported in the on-campus NYFA LA community during a given week, given our current population.
    • The mandate would be removed when there are ten (10) or fewer individuals with positive test results reported in the on-campus NYFA LA community for a minimum of a two week period.
  • According to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH), they will be reinstating an universal indoor mask mandate if the county is categorized as High according to the CDC Community Level Matrix and stays at that level for two consecutive weeks.
    • If LADPH institutes an indoor mask mandate, NYFA LA will fall under that mandate and institute a mask mandate on campus until LADPH lifts it.

Best Practices To Stay Healthy? Good Personal Hygiene and Getting Vaccinated

The incidence rates of new cases of COVID-19 in LA has increased and the number of COVID-19 patients hospitalized in LA has also increased. Consequently, the CDC risk level for Los Angeles County is MEDIUM.

The CDC recommends that all individuals living in Medium-Risk Counties engage in the following behaviors:
  • Wear a well-fitted, N95/KN95 respirator or mask of comparable quality, regardless of vaccination status, when indoors and in public if you are at high risk for severe illness.
  • Consider avoiding non-essential indoor activities if you or a family member are at risk of severe disease.
  • Wear a well-fitted, N95/KN95 respirator or mask of comparable quality, regardless of vaccination status, if you have been exposed to someone diagnosed with COVID-19, whenever indoors. Continue to wear a mask when indoors and sharing space with others for 10 days after the last day of exposure.
  • If you choose to frequent restaurants and entertainment venues, decide to enter spaces that are well ventilated and adequately spacious to allow for proper distancing.
  • Be vigilant and practicing good personal hygiene, regardless of vaccination status, to best protect yourself from getting ill.
By practicing caution and abiding by these health guidelines, you will limit your exposure to the virus, and you will be doing all you can to stay healthy and protect the safety of our community.
