UPDATE: LA COVID-19 Health Report - Nov. 24
November 24, 2020 - 4:50pm
Dear NYFA LA Community,
This is an update to the LA COVID-19 Health Report that was sent on November 20. Prior reports are posted on the LA Health and Campus Updates page on the NYFA Hub.
On November 20 we notified the NYFA LA community that one member of the NYFA community tested positive for COVID-19. That individual has not been present on campus at any time during the infectious period. That individual was, however, in close contact, off-campus, with NYFA community members outside of any NYFA-related activities.
Four of the NYFA community members in contact with the individual from the November 20 report have tested positive. None of these four individuals have been present at NYFA-related activities during the infectious period.
All individuals within our community who have had close contact with the original individual who tested positive and/or the additional four individuals confirmed to have COVID-19 have been instructed to self-quarantine for 14 days and monitor for symptoms.
NYFA follows public health contact tracing guidelines when contacting individuals with suspected and confirmed COVID-19 and when contacting individuals in close contact with someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19.
NYFA LA is in touch with LA County Public Health, per guidelines, to indicate that a cluster of individuals (3 or more cases) have tested positive.
The individuals who tested positive are isolating until a safe return to in-person activities is possible. We are in contact with these individuals to ensure they have the support and care they need. All are experiencing mild symptoms, are improving, and are anticipated to make a full recovery.
NYFA LA is committed to monitoring and mitigating within our community the potential spread of SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19 illness. Incidence rates of new cases of COVID-19 in Los Angeles have been increasing. The NYFA LA community is urged to be proactive and vigilant in following public health guidelines including:
Stay home when you are sick and avoid contact with people who are sick.
Follow personal hygiene guidelines:
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue, and then dispose of the tissue and clean your hands immediately.
Avoid sharing food, drinks, or utensils.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipes.
Wear a mask or face covering when venturing outside your home.
As a reminder, NYFA will be closed on Thursday and Friday (November 26 & 27) for the Thanksgiving holiday. The CDC has shared guidance for celebrating Thanksgiving safely.
COVID-19 spreads easily, as this infographic from the LA Times shows.
