Jeff Mermelstein, the son of Holocaust survivors, was born in 1957 in New Brunswick, NJ. He moved to NYC that same year for a one-year internship in photography at the International Center of Photography and has been on the teaching faculty there since 1987.
Mermelstein is the winner of an Aaron Siskind Foundation Grant (1991) and The European Publisher’s Award for Photography (1999). His editorial photography has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, Fortune, Life, The New Yorker, Esquire, GQ, Newsweek, Time, and many others.
Mermelstein’s photographs are part of the permanent collections of many museums and institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, and the ICP.
