Fall New Student Orientation 2024

 

Welcome to NYFA Miami! Our New Student  Orientation Week is full of vital information about how to get the most from your NYFA Miami experience. We will delve into topics including: academic expectations, student life, health/ safety, life in Miami, student resources, and more! New Student Orientation also provides opportunities for students to meet classmates, connect with other like-minded creatives. And make some lifelong friends!

 

Students must be available for Orientation sessions and activities that will occur On Campus and online during the week of August 19th-23rd, 2024


Please save these dates in your calendar to attend mandatory Orientation sessions.


Tuesday, August 20th


10:00am EST,  (Mandatory for all, on campus)

New Student Check in - Suite 300-Come get SWAG!

Receive your schedule (Room 351), NYFA swag (Room 351), and get your student ID picture taken (Room 351).


10:30am - 11:30am EST,  (Mandatory for all, on campus)
New Student Orientation: Welcome Breakfast in the student lounge 

Join us for a welcome breakfast and the opportunity to get to know your fellow classmates. Also meet the Dean, Department Chairs, and NYFA staff and learn what it will be like to be a student at NYFA for the Spring semester. 

 

11:30am- 1:30pm EST, ON CAMPUS (Mandatory for all, on campus)
New Student Orientation: Student Services - Room 321

Learn about safety, general campus protocols, and tour the campus facilities. 


2:00pm- 5:00pm EST, ON CAMPUS (Mandatory for all, on campus)

Lunch and Connections - Student Lounge

Come have fun with your new classmates as we get to know each other, make new connections, and have lunch! You will meet the Student Ambassadors and mingle with your peers.

Wednesday, August 21st


Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Training

In the spirit of storytelling and engagement, students will participate in discussions about race, culture, identity, and equity to celebrate the benefits of recognizing and embracing diversity as students and as artists.

Financial Aid Orientation (Mandatory for students receiving Financial Aid and students interested in receiving Financial Aid, held online)
Students interested in Financial Aid will be introduced to the Financial Aid department

New Student Orientation:  Counseling  (Mandatory for all, held online)

You will get information on counseling services, student accommodations, therapy, and overall tools for staying well while in school.

Writing Center (Mandatory for all, held online)

NYFA’s Writing Center  staff will provide valuable information about their services, resources and how they can help support your student success and artistic pursuits



Thursday, August 22nd 2024

Mandatory International Student Orientation (International Student Department will be in Contact, held online) 

International students will learn important information about maintaining your immigration status

Aetna Health Insurance Information Session (Optional for all, held online)

Aetna representatives will provide detailed information on NYFA’s Student Health Insurance, including but not limited to how health insurance works in the US compared to other countries, reviewing insurance policy details, finding health services in your area, and using the Aetna health portal.

Veteran Student Orientation (Mandatory for Veteran Students, held online)
Student veterans and their dependents and spouses will learn more about Veteran Services.

You will get information on Title IX and overall tools for staying well while in school.
