CLASS CANCELLATIONS TOMORROW, MARCH 13TH & ONLINE LEARNING STARTING MONDAY

 Updated March 12, 2020

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

As you are aware, we will be moving all classes online as of Monday, March 16th until, at the earliest, March 22nd. We will continue to review the situation with the goal of reopening on-campus instruction at the first opportunity.

As an additional precaution and to permit faculty and students to prepare for the online learning environment, classes scheduled for Friday, March 13th and Saturday, March 14th, are cancelled. Material to be covered in those classes will be incorporated into subsequent classes.

To make this difficult decision, and to make any ongoing decisions, NYFA’s COVID-19 Task Force considers information provided by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, local health organizations, and input from faculty, staff, students, and families. We are committed to providing excellent education, while simultaneously mitigating the spread of COVID-19 among the NYFA community and the community at large. As of today, there are still no known cases of COVID-19 on any of our campuses.

In regard to our move to online classes and our move to teleworking for staff, below is some important information you should know.

Online Learning: Our faculty have been preparing their classes according to the existing schedule to maintain our high educational standards. Some material must be translated for the online environment and necessary delivery adjustments are being made. Many students question how some of our hands-on methods will be covered. Imperative hands-on experiences that cannot be satisfactorily covered through the online platform will be revisited when we return to normal operations, and we are dedicated to delivering our programs to achieve all learning outcomes, including outcomes related to hands-on experiences.

Tuition Refunds: No special considerations regarding refunds will be made in response to the current situation, as all of our current programs will continue to run through the online platform. Tuition refunds for those who wish to terminate their education will be made according to our existing refund policies.

Graduation: NYFA is committed to working with our current graduating class to allow students who successfully complete their course requirements to graduate at, or close to, the scheduled graduation date.

Mental Health Services and Student Support Services: Student counseling and support services, including Title IX, Financial Aid, Housing, and International Student Services will continue to operate, but may alter their communication methods and methods of delivery.

Equipment Check-outs for Production: Until further notice, students may check out equipment for offsite projects as scheduled, but must email the equipment room at the address below with confirmation of their check-out date and time and all those who will be attending the check-out. Individuals whose names do not appear on the list provided will not be able to check out equipment.
New York campus: equipres@nyfa.edu
Note: Should we need to suspend check-outs, you will be notified and arrangements will be made to reschedule productions.

Possible Cancellation: If there is a circumstance where class(es) are cancelled the material of those classes will be covered in a subsequent scheduled class.

Administrative Staff: To continue our efforts regarding mitigation of the spread of COVID-19, New York Film Academy will be implementing a temporary “telework” program available to those employees whose roles and responsibilities allow for working off-campus, starting March 13, 2020. In the coming days, Human Resources will communicate any necessary additional information regarding our telework conditions.

Thank you,

Michael Young
President
