COUNSELING SERVICES SUPPORT FOR NYFA LA STUDENTS

Updated March 27, 2020 - 3:08pm

Dear NYFA LA Students,

As we come to the end of the second week of online classes, many of you are navigating the challenges of balancing class projects and feelings of self-isolation due to COVID-19. Being in Los Angeles during the COVID-19 outbreak has created a new demand for all of us to feel safe, connected, and heard. Some of you may be resting easy watching your favorite shows, playing games, talking to friends and relaxing. For others, this time may be one of stress, anxiety and unease. Feelings such as loneliness, apathy, fear, anger, and uncertainty can sometimes be helpful to explore with a licensed therapist on staff. We are here for you and want to support you. Check out NYFA resources in the NYFA Well News email, by joining NYFA Events, and know that Counseling Services is available for mental health support services in the form of:

  • One-on-one sessions (therapy, psycho-education, addiction/substance management)
  • Online group counseling options

Counseling Services continues to offer groups, as we have all semester, although we have now shifted those meetings to Zoom. Want to join a group? Email CounselingLA@nyfa.eduto get the Zoom link:

  • Anxiety and Stress Processing Group, Every Tuesday at Noon
  • Self-Care and Empowering Creativity Group, Every Wednesday at 1pm

Interested in a group focused on other topics? Email CounselingLA@nyfa.edu and we will find a day/time for interested students:

  • Relationships and Intimacy Group
  • International Support Group
  • LGBTQI+ Support Group
  • The Artist's Way

On this coming Monday and Thursday, we are offering two workshops:

  • Roommate conflicts: At a time like this, how do we all make it work? - Discussion and Tips, Monday (March 30) at 12:30pm
    • Explore communication skills and working as a team, develop a better sense of boundaries, and assess alternatives to meet one another’s needs.
  • Loneliness During a Lonely Time – A Processing Workshop, Thursday (April 2) at 1pm
    • Explore topics of freedom, meaning, isolation, and self-care. Develop a stronger sense of self-awareness and self-confidence, and a better understanding of what it means to feel alone at a time of struggle.
