Please read this week’s COVID-19 Summary Health Report. Rates of virus transmission in NYC is high and, consequently, members of our community are contracting COVID-19 at increased frequency. Given the high rate of cases in NYC, please closely adhere to all NYFA health and safety protocols, as described in the COVID Safety Plan.
If you are scheduled to report to campus or participate in any in-person NYFA activity on any day you feel sick, please:- Stay home
- Report your symptoms to the NYFA Symptom Tracker
- Get an RT-PCR test
- Wear a N95/KN95 when leaving the home (or inside the home if you share a living space with others)
During the week of July 3, 2022, eleven (11) members of the NYFA community tested positive for COVID-19. Eight (8) sought testing in response to experiencing COVID-19 related symptoms. and three (3) were asymptomatic and tested positive when participating in the NYFA COVID-19 Testing Program. All individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 have been contacted and directed to self-isolate. Six (6) individuals were present on campus during their infectious periods. Five (5) individuals were not present on campus during their infectious periods.
All close contacts of the individuals who tested positive were informed of their possible exposure and directed to follow NYFA’s guidelines for post-exposure to person(s) diagnosed with COVID-19.
Three of the individuals who tested positive are residents of the facilities housing either NYFA students or NYFA campers.
Best Practices To Stay Healthy? Good Personal Hygiene and Getting Vaccinated
The incidence rates of new cases of COVID-19 in NYC are increasing and the number of COVID-19 patients hospitalized in NYC has also increased. Consequently, the CDC risk level for New York City is HIGH.
The CDC recommends that all individuals living in high-risk counties engage in the following behaviors:- Wear a well-fitted, N95/KN95 respirator or mask of comparable quality, regardless of vaccination status, when indoors and in public.
- Consider avoiding non-essential indoor activities if you or a family member are at risk of severe disease.
- Wear a well-fitted, N95/KN95 respirator or mask of comparable quality, regardless of vaccination status, if you have been exposed to someone diagnosed with COVID-19, whenever indoors. Continue to wear a mask when indoors and sharing space with others for 10 days after the last day of exposure.
- If you choose to frequent restaurants and entertainment venues, decide to enter spaces that are well ventilated and adequately spacious to allow for proper distancing.
- Be vigilant and practice good personal hygiene, regardless of vaccination status, to best protect yourself from getting ill.
By practicing caution and abiding by these health guidelines, you will limit your exposure to the virus, and you will be doing all you can to stay healthy and protect the safety of our community.
