Revised NYFA Self-Quarantine Guidelines

Revised NYFA Self-Quarantine Guidelines

March 16, 2021, 4:00pm EST

Dear NYFA Students, Faculty and Staff,

As infection rates decline across all campus regions and states are administering COVID-19 vaccinations to steadily increasing numbers of residents, NYFA is revising, in compliance with state and local health department directives, its self-quarantine guidelines.

While the  CDC continues to endorse quarantine for 14 days and recognizes that any quarantine shorter than 14 days balances reduced burden against a small possibility of spreading the SARS-CoV-2 virus,  the local and state public health departments of our collective campus regions all support reducing the self-quarantine period from 14 to 10 days.

NYFA has decided to adopt local and state public health department self-quarantine guidance. The revised NYFA self-quarantine guidelines in response to travel and exposure to person(s) testing positive for COVID-19 are as follows:

Self-Quarantine Requirements for Exposure to COVID-19 and Post Travel

  • Self-quarantine for individuals exposed to COVID-19 and returning to their campus region after travel can end their quarantine period AFTER Day 10 if and only if they experience no COVID-19 related symptoms during the quarantine period (Day One of the self-quarantine period is the day after an individual either arrived in the campus region or was last in contact with an infected individual).

  • Individuals in self-quarantine must continue daily symptom monitoring through Day 14 and take their temperatures twice daily.

  • Individuals in self-quarantine must strictly adhere at all times, when both in and outside their homes, to all recommended practices for good personal hygiene, including frequent hand washing, maintaining physical distance and wearing well-fitted masks, through Day 14.

  • Individuals who experience one or more symptoms related to COVID-19 must immediately self-isolate and contact their campus COVID-19 Team Administrator for guidance.

  • COVID-19 Team Administrators will provide all individuals in self-quarantine support and counsel.  No individual in self-quarantine will be permitted to participate in in-person classes or activities until cleared to do so by the campus COVID-19 Administrator.

NYFA will continue to evaluate new information and update recommendations as needed.

All documentation regarding self-quarantine noted on the HUB, the NYFA webpages and instructional handouts will be updated in the coming weeks.

Please direct any questions regarding this policy revision to your campus COVID-19 Team Administrator.

Stay safe. Stay well. Stay connected.  And please do not hesitate to reach out for support and assistance as we navigate together through these difficult times.
